Our Mission

To provide abused and neglected children with quality advocacy in the court system and to secure a safe, permanent, and nurturing home for them by recruiting, training and supporting a diverse network of Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers.

Our Goals:

Have every abused and neglected child served by a CASA volunteer.

Professionally advocate for improved outcomes and in the best interest of each child [who has suffered abuse or neglect].

Continuously improve volunteer effectiveness and increase program quality.

Share our insights to improve child welfare laws and policies.

CASA of Hancock County speaks up for children who’ve been abused or neglected by empowering our community to volunteer as advocates for them in the court system. The Youth Court Judge appoints a trained CASA volunteer to make independent and informed recommendations in the child’s best interest. CASA volunteers come from every walk of life and share a commitment to improving children’s lives. The first step in becoming a CASA volunteer is to attend a one hour informational session. We hold them weekly and they are a great opportunity to meet our team and learn more about this unique volunteer role.

In addition to volunteering as a CASA advocate, there are other ways to support our work. You can join a committee that helps us educate the community on our cause, volunteer on a planning committee for one of our fundraisers, or even help with our children's well-being projects. These projects include our birthday cake project, a school supply drive and our holiday toy drive and Christmas party for our children.

CASA also prioritizes community education in Hancock County. We offer a two hour training on the prevention of childhood sexual abuse free of charge. We also have one of two Trust Based Relational Intervention or "TBRI" practitioners in the state of Mississippi who trains and support foster parents to better support children who have experienced trauma in their early years.
